On Wednesday 11th October 2023, eight teams did battle at Market Drayton Golf Course, in Onions & Davies Solicitors’ Charity Golf Day in aid of Dougie Mac Hospice.

It’s fair to say that the weather conditions could have been kinder to our brave golfers, but the inclement weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the competitors too much, with some excellent golf played on the day.

In what turned into something of an endurance event, Jordan Rice emerged victorious as the winning individual, and his team, Weapons of Grass Destruction, also secured the winning team prize.

The Pheasant Pluckers were the runners-up in the team event, and Jonny Hart secured second place in the individual event. Notable mentions too to Kelly Morley and Roger Morley, who secured the Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin prizes respectively.

Before play, our chosen charity, Dougie Mac Hospice, gave a short presentation to explain how the funds raised from the event would go to help the invaluable work they do in our local community.

We were delighted to provide a complimentary entry for a team representing Dougie Mac Hospice, and we were also pleased to welcome a team representing the Armed Forces, as part of Onions & Davies’ longstanding commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.

After play, guests enjoyed a delicious home-cooked two-course meal, and there was a presentation of prizes, as well as the all-important draw for the charity raffle.

In total, the event raised £1,502 for Dougie Mac Hospice, and we should like to thank all those who contributed to the event’s success, whether as an entrant, or those who took part in the raffle.

We should like to thank Market Drayton Golf Club for hosting our event and contributing to the success of the day.

We should also like to thank the Head Professional at Market Drayton Golf Club, Phil Toomer, his team, as well as the greenskeepers for having the course presented so well for our event, despite the conditions.

A final special thank you to the following individuals and businesses who kindly provided prizes for the winning golfers or for our charity raffle:

  • Compleat Foods – Palethorpes
