We are pleased to announce that we have signed up to the Safe Places Shropshire scheme.
The Safe Places scheme is a nationwide initiative, established by Mencap, which is supported locally by West Mercia Police and several local charities.
The scheme is designed to support the needs of adults with learning disabilities, but is appropriate for anyone who may become vulnerable whilst out and about.
We are one of a number of locations throughout Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire, and we can be identified by the Safe Place sticker that we have in our window. If anyone comes to us because they feel vulnerable, or they have become lost or disorientated, we will look after them and contact someone to come and collect them. It may be that all they need is a bit of time and space to gather themselves, until they feel better and can continue their day. If necessary, we will call the police on 101 or 999 for them.
In the course of our work at Onions & Davies, we come across a lot of vulnerable adults, young and old, and we work with them and their families. We understand the issues that they face, and while we wish to encourage their independence, we realise that there are circumstances in which they can feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed. Becoming part of the Safe Places scheme is one way in which we can provide some extra support.
